Hot New York Venues to Host Couture Runway Shows

The USA International Fashion Shows is a concept whose time has come. New York has become well known in fashion circles for its prêt-a-porter collections, and now reaches new heights by becoming the trend setting site of this series of couture runway fashion shows presented to an audience of VIPs, the international press and upscale fashion and boutique buyers. The event, which had its debut in February 2003, is opening new doors to creative designers of garments and accessories, as well as to make up artists, hair stylists and other visionaries in the fashion industry. Over the long term, the USA International Fashion Shows are striving to become a stimulus to the fashion industry and the economy in general, creating new jobs and business opportunities. Fabric companies, manufacturers and investors are showing a great deal of interest in the event.

For the Spring 2004 ‘s collections, the show venues are trendy yet not faddish. Instead of meat packing plants or industrial spaces, the event producer opted for locations that have a sense of beauty, glamour and/or grandeur depending on each collection to be presented.

This season’s shows are divided into three groups:

-         the latest collection from Portuguese designer ANTONIO DA SILVA whose edgy couture designs are bound to set the tone for the rest of the event;

-         the OPERA SWIMWEAR couture swimwear collection from Brazilian designer SUELI COSTA which was recently featured in the Sports Illustrated editorial “Ultimate Swimsuit 1964-2003” with supermodel Ana Beatriz Barros, along with other fabulous models. Articles on Sueli’s designs are currently in the works by other top magazines, including FHM.

-         The Hollywood-inspired collection by Cleveland, Ohio-based African- American designer PATRICIA MILLS is reminiscent of the Golden Age of Hollywood, unapologetically glamorous with a decidedly 21st- century flair. Her elegant signature evening and wedding gowns incorporate hand painted brush strokes and detailing.

-         An afterparty will follow to kick off Fashion Week.

-         Lebanese designer MAYSSAN SHUAYB, bringing Parisian sophistication to New York;

-         award-winning Dominican designer LOURDES ATENCIO LIBMAN, whose exquisite gowns were featured, along with the creations of other top designers, in the book I Do. 100 Years of Wedding Fashion published by Co & Bear in London. Lourdes’s gowns were recently worn by Miss Canada and Miss Nicaragua in the 2003 Miss Universe pageant.

-         An afterparty will feature the presentation of the Celebrity with a Big Heart Award to Costa Rican-born supermodel Mauricio Amuy. Mauricio is continuing a lifelong tradition of helping unfortunate children by supporting such charities as Proyecto San Francisco de Asis, an organization that helps abandoned children in Costa Rica. USAIFS producer Andres Aquino created the Celebrity with a Big Heart award to recognize accomplished persons in the fields of fashion, music, film or art who also support a children’s charity cause.

The USA International Fashion Shows event creates opportunities for new talented artists in many fields including fashion, makeup, styling and even music. One good example is Angelo Rusciano, an accomplished award-winning artist, architect and musician who is creating original music for the USAIFS this season. “We are starting a revolution in the fashion industry and the music by this gifted multi-talented artist will be a compliment to each couture designer’s collection,” notes producer Andres Aquino. Angelo’s art can currently be viewed at a street-level window installation located at The New York Institute of Technology’s Manhattan campus. He is also involved in the interior art renovation of nine historic South Beach hotels on Rodeo Drive, South Beach Florida. Angelo’s clients include singer Mary J. Blige who recently commissioned an original painting.

Accessories Designers Shine. Ecuadorian-born, New York-based footwear designer Carlos Molina will make a big splash in the September USAIFS event accessorizing several of the runway shows. Carlos continues to be known as the “architect of sexy shoes” with his innovative and sensual creations. The original creations of talented jewelry designer Maja Schulz will also be worn by models in several of the shows. Maja’s jewelry is currently sold in Vienna, New York and Quito, Ecuador.

In creating the USA International Fashion Shows, producer Andres Aquino has drawn on his diverse  experience as theater director, fashion and art photographer, makeup artist, venue manager, and fashion marketer. His talents, along with those of a team of creative and innovative professionals, promise to make this an unforgettable event.
