Olivia Trapp's Dolce Mare Swimsuit Line Makes A Splash in New York

(New York, September 26, 2004) Olivia Trapp may have been born in Manhattan, but her first bathing suit collection reveals a passion for the kinds of islands that are surrounded by warm, crystal clear water, swaying palms and soothing breezes.

Raised in New York City by European parents, Olivia has enjoyed extensive travels that have taken her to watering holes where exquisite swim suits are admired above all for their shapely cuts.  This collection is her first created under her own newly founded Dolce Mare label. It was inspired by her love for the Turks and Caicos, where she and her mother established an arts foundation several years ago. Their mission was to encourage islanders to use their talents to create beautiful objects and achieve self sufficiency through their craft. The resulting hand-painted silk pareos are but some of the lovely objects whose colors and forms lie within the new Dolce Mare collection.

Following graduation from Tulane University with a BA in psychology, Olivia headed for Milan to study at Italy’s renowned fashion design school, Istituto Marangoni. From pattern making to drawing and computer assisted design, the intensive program refined Olivia’s creative talent and provided the technical underpinnings she would need to realize a long standing dream of launching her own swimwear collection.

This first line of Dolce Mare swimwear reflects the audacious colors of Caribbean Island culture and the seductive elegance of refined Mediterranean coastal resorts that Olivia knows all too intimately. The collection is characterized by provocative yet demure cut-outs and ornamental rings and bows. They fit the individual and active styles of the jet setting women who will wear them swimming or lounging at the world’s great beaches. With Dolce Mare’s polished elegance, the quick addition of a pareo and a fabulous piece of jewelry, makes these swim suits perfect for an effortless transition from an afternoon of cabana lounging to an evening on the town.

The collection is cut in a rich, soft and supple fabric of 80% nylon and 20% spandex in six bold colors. Each piece is named for a legendary beach resort. The swimsuit’s suggested retail prices range from $185 to $210.

The show is part of the popular Champagne Fashion Brunch Series produced by USA International Fashion Shows and held at Gallery, The Gershwin Hotel, 7 East 27th Street, (between Madison and 5th Avenue) on New York’s chic East Side.

USA International Fashion Shows produces an exciting series of runway fashion shows featuring both national and international designers of couture and finely tailored garments, many showcasing in the USA for the first time. The collections are presented in beautiful settings in New York City before an audience of VIPs, the international press and upscale fashion and boutique buyers. Producer Andres Aquino is CEO of USA International Fashion Shows and Fashion Syndicate Press, founded in 1997.
