Designer Laura Williams to Make New York Debut at Champagne Fashion Brunch

Talented fashion designer Laura Williams will showcase her latest creations on Sunday, October 29, 2006 as part of the Champagne Fashion Brunch series. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. for a delightful afternoon of champagne, gourmet Tuscan delicacies and beautiful fashions. The event will be held at La Prima Donna Restaurant, located at 163 West 47th Street - a stone's throw from Times Square - in New York City.

The fashions of the Washington DC-based designer are characterized by an original style and exceptional craftsmanship. Born to a mother whose life revolved around her family, Laura Williams picked up the art of sewing at a young age and soon was making clothes for her family and friends. Since then, she has pursued her dream of becoming a  renowned fashion designer, earning a BS degree from the University of the District of Columbia, and attending the Ardis School of Fashion and Design. Many of her designs have made it to store shelves, including Gallery Africa in Maryland as well as Trade Secrets, Just One, the Mya Gallery, Dale of Ida's and African Eye in Washington DC. Ms. Williams has collaborated with celebrities including musician Jeff Majors, music director Vince Evans and Dick Gregory, and has worked with the Congressional Black Caucus Fashion shows. Her work has been included in the Multicolor Workshop Catalog, based in Illinois, and she and her children have appeared in “I Want to Be: A Fashion Designer” (Copyright 1999 by Maze Productions).

In spite of her busy schedule, Ms. Williams finds time to teach the youth in her neighborhood in order to give back to the community.

“Sewing is an important practical skill and can be a money saver,” notes the designer on something that started out as a hobby. “If you have a big family and you’re on a budget, making clothes can be cost effective—and you get better quality.”

With her upcoming New York debut in October, the long time owner of Laura’s House of Fashion has taken a giant leap from selling her clothing line in the mall to letting a larger public become acquainted with her designs through a first-class runway fashion show.

"Laura Williams is a talent and a gift to the fashion community," says fashion show producer Andres Aquino. "She doesn't just make clothes, she builds them."
