Katya Leonovich to Show Cutting Edge Bridal Designs at Couture Fashion Week New York

Katya Leonovich will show innovative bridal designs at Couture Fashion Week New YorkAward-winning designer Katya Leonovich will show her latest collection at Couture Fashion Week at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday September 11, 2010. In her second appearance at the event, the designer will debut her new namesake bridal collection. The fashion show will be held in the legendary Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf-Astoria on Park Avenue, New York City.

Past winner of the Mittelmodal Prize, the Smirnoff International Competition, the Nadejda Lamanova Prize of the Russian Federation and Supima’s inaugural Competition for Emerging Designers, Katya developed her techniques in couture design while in Paris, Rome and her hometown of Moscow.

The introduction of Katya’s couture bridal collection allows for her edgy and dynamic forms to be joined with the traditional concept of bridal wear; while still expressing her signature ‘Beautiful Garbage’ concept: the embedding of traditional fabrics such as gauzes, chiffons and silks with an assortment of materials including torn paper, bits of fur, pieces of aluminum, strands of cotton, feathers and fringes. The bridal collection, inspired by the dress Katya created for her own wedding last fall, complete with sculpted 3-dimensional pyramids and florescent blue lights clicked on when she said “I do,” is also based on both a futuristic and altruistic attitude. "The variation in the fabrics and the displaced patters speak to the concept of wholeness, and the universe," says Katya. ‘Beautiful Garbage’ supports the collection’s altruistic attitude, by which the value of beauty is not found in the "preciousness of the material," comments Katya but rather, "the beauty a woman finds within herself."

Furthering that notion is jewelry collaboration with Italian-born jewelry designer Patrizia Iacino, (www.globalcoolo.com) who is known for taking everyday objects considered as throwaways to most, and juxtaposing them with precious metals, gemstones and pearls to create one-of-a-kind hand-crafted jewelry. For each look in Katya’s debut collection, Iacino uses aluminum chains, recycled plastic bottles and leftover fabric to create neck sculptures that are both organic and unusual beyond their material content. "I’ve never really done any high-fashion work," comments Iacino. "Katya involved me in a higher level of the 'experimental high fashion. We’re very proud of what we’ve created together."

Katya Leonovich is listed in the Encyclopedia of Fashion in Russia as a premiere representative of the new generation of Russian fashion. Her work has been featured in publications around the world including Le Figaro, L’Officiel, Collezioni and Book Moda. She has shown on the runway in Rome, Milan, Paris, Moscow and New York, and the L Gallery in New York City recently held a retrospective of her designs.
