In
September 2006, the elegance and luxury of Couture Fashion Week in New York City
will be the setting for a spectacular runway show of the latest collection by
accomplished Croatian designer Gordana Radic. The fashion show is scheduled to take place at 6:00
p.m. on Friday, 8 September 2006 at the world famous Waldorf-Astoria, Empire
Room, 301 Park Avenue (between 49th and 50th Streets),
New York City. A special encore presentation
will be shown during the
Champagne Fashion Brunch on Sunday, September 10 at La Prima Donna,
163 West 47th Street (between 6th & 7th Avenues - near Times Square),
New York City.
Gordana Radic's distinctive creations are characterized by what the designer calls a "disguised sensuality." Shapes are soft, fluttering and discontinuous with extensive use of multiple layers, "rough" edges and numerous figure-shaped applications. Taffetas, satins and silks are combined with muslin in unique combinations to achieve the designer's vision. Luxurious dresses are rich in detail, often with various nuances of the same color lending a shadowed sculptural effect to the final design. The female form is accented through the designer's imaginative use of a predominantly natural color palette as well as her innovative use of transparency in her designs.
A native of Croatia, Gordana Radic originally studied to be a veterinarian, earning a degree in Biology from the University of Zagreb. Her focus soon turned to fashion, however, and in 1989 she opened her flagship boutique in Split, specializing in custom designs. Since then, Ms. Radic has continued her steady ascent in the fashion field, participating in such events as IGEDO in Dussledorf, Prestige in Dubai and Vancouver Fashion Week in Canada. She has lent her formidable talents to such projects as the UNESCO-sponsored "Future of the Past" highlighting Croatian folkloric clothing; the "Croatian Woman" series of fashion shows across the United States to raise funds for equipment for Croatian hospitals; an exclusive fashion show for FIFA members and VIP guests during the World Cup festivities in 1998 in Vittel, France; and "Paris in Split", which included a fashion show by Parisian couturier Izet Curi. Ms. Radic has been the official designer of several Croatian beauty pageants, and the recipient of the "Golden Flower" award at the prestigious "Euro Top Fashion" event. Her participation in "International Fashion Festival 3000" in Pula, Croatia featured "electrical dresses": neon tubes affixed to wire constructions wrapped onto models and lighted up in a blaze of blue and red. More traditional has been her founding and work with a non-profit organization devoted to the presevation of Croatian heritage and costume traditions, including gold thread ornamentation -- which inspired a couture collection. Ms. Radic has also been a fashion columnist and critic.
Gordana Radic's designs are sold in fine stores in Italy, France, Austria, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzogovina, and Serbia.
